Schedule and Compensation:
- Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Primary Accountabilities:
The Information Technology Specialist will serve on-site at the Mescalero Service Unit in Mescalero, NM, supporting Indian Health Service operations. This role will focus on the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of critical IT systems and infrastructure. The Specialist will play a vital role in supporting healthcare delivery through secure and efficient IT services, ensuring system integrity, compliance, and performance.
This position requires strong collaboration with clinical and administrative teams to ensure IT platforms align with operational goals and federal healthcare technology standards. Responsibilities include identifying IT needs, managing servers and networks, implementing cybersecurity measures, and coordinating with IHS leadership on technology strategy and execution.
Major Responsibilities:
Identify system and infrastructure requirements and make recommendations to IHS leadership and the COR (Contracting Officer’s Representative)
Provide ongoing administration of Windows servers and applications (including RPMS and EHR systems) with full access to server and network resources
Perform system installation, rebuilding, and configuration of hardware, services, and storage solutions in accordance with IHS standards
Conduct regular security monitoring, data backup operations, and disaster recovery readiness
Maintain performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and operational documentation
Create and manage user accounts and permissions as needed
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and IHS IT security policies
Lead user support activities, including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and end-user training
Submit bi-weekly progress reports to the COR and maintain timesheet accountability
Collaborate with IHS IT staff and serve as a subject matter expert on-site
Physical Demands:
Frequent on-site work in a clinical or administrative setting
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, and kneel when installing or maintaining hardware
Regular use of computers and standard office equipment
Work Environment:
100% On-site role at the Mescalero Service Unit, 318 Abalone Loop, Mescalero, NM 88340
Monday to Friday, full-time hours (up to 40 hours/week); federal holidays off
Work in a secure, federally managed healthcare environment
Multicultural setting with frequent interaction with healthcare professionals and patients
Additional Duties:
Other job-related duties may be assigned by supervisors as needed. Flexibility and adaptability to clinic needs are expected.

Requirements
Requirements & Preferred Attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent IT experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience in IT systems administration or technical support
- Proven experience managing Windows-based systems and networks
- Familiarity with federal healthcare systems such as RPMS and EHR
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices and federal compliance (HIPAA, FISMA, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with medical and administrative staff
- Strong documentation and reporting capabilities using Microsoft Office tools
- All contractors must pass a federal background check and complete required health clearances
- Required to attend orientation and adhere to IHS conduct and security policies
- Must complete mandatory training such as “Protecting Children from Sexual Abuse” within 30 days of hire
- Contractor identification badges and compliance with all facility access protocols are mandatory
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass a federal background investigation
- Must provide immunization records and meet IHS health requirements
