Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC) in Polacca, Arizona, is calling adventurous physicians to bring their skills to the heart of the Hopi Reservation. As the only hospital serving a rural community of 18,000, HHCC is looking for adaptable, mission-driven inpatient physicians to join the team. If you’re passionate about meaningful work, flexible enough to handle both inpatient care and occasional fast-track or clinic coverage, and intrigued by life in a scenic, off-the-grid location, this could be your ideal assignment.
Job Highlights:
- Location: Polacca, AZ (rural Northern Arizona on the Hopi Reservation)
- Facility: TJC-accredited Critical Access Hospital with a 4-bed inpatient unit
- Flexible Long Term 1099 Contract up to 1 year with extension possibilities
- Local or travel locums welcome
- Work authorized under any active, unrestricted U.S. medical license
- Schedule:
- 10–12-hour day shifts, typically in 7-day blocks
- Shifts begin at 7:30 AM; flexibility required for end time
- Physicians may assist with clinic follow-ups or fast-track care based on census
- Environment:
- Low inpatient census (average 2 patients/day)
- 24/7 ED on-site with collaborative coverage model
- On-site lab, radiology, pharmacy, and behavioral health services
- Support: Orientation provided prior to first shift; strong team culture; community-focused care
Requirements
Qualifications – Inpatient Hospitalist MD:
- Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted medical license from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory
- Board Eligible or Board Certified
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Current certifications required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (NRP recommended)
- Must hold a DEA license and be eligible to prescribe medications
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an inpatient or hospitalist setting preferred
- Documentation required:
- Copy of diploma or transcripts for verification of education
- Recent inpatient experience and relevant procedure logs if requesting privileges
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (training provided for IHS systems)
- Excellent diagnostic, clinical, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and provide patient-centered care
- Must be a US Citizen primarily living in the United States
- Must be willing and able to adapt to a flexible schedule and comply with all state and federal regulations regarding medical practice
